Richard’s Hill Residential Historic District

Location Watertown, Wisconsin
Project Type National Register Nomination
Year 2012

The Richards Hill Historic District demonstrates a wide range of residential architectural styles dating from 1854 to 1950. Unlike many communities in the state, Watertown did not development a single prestigious residential neighborhood. The district’s 62 residences were built around the famed octagon house of John Richards on his large, formerly rural estate. Representative of the prevailing architectural styles of the time, Federal, Gothic Revival, Queen Anne, Bungalow, Tudor Revival, Dutch Colonial Revival, French Renaissance, and Mediterranean Revival style residences are prominent within the district.
